Look What the Postman Brought

My husband is officially a t.u. graduate with the sticker for his car to prove it. We would have burned it in the wild prairie fires that were only a few miles from our house today, but they were extinguished before we had the chance. (Thankfully, of course!) He finally got his diploma as well, so now we have to figure out how and where to hang it. Feel free to leave me some suggestions.

Rest assured, Aggie friends and family. This sticker will not be making a debut on any car of ours.

And this is off the subject, but is anyone excited about the LOST premiere on Thursday, besides us?

What'cha Gonna Do About It?

Go here to read about the fact that the NKOTB are bringing it back. Exactly what they are bringing back...well, who knows.

And just in case anyone is wondering, while everyone else was jumping on their bandwagon, I was staying true to Debbie Gibson.

This photo is just painful.

Get Well Soon

My brother is very sick today, so this is to let him know I am thinking about him. I am afraid maybe he tried to limit himself to only 5 Dr. Peppers a day due to some crazy New Year's resolution, and now it's totally thrown off his equilibrium. Or maybe he just has the black plague.

My prescription is watch the entire Flight of the Conchords, drink lots of DP, and get well soon, Drew! Love you!

You Decide 2008

I thought this was interesting so wanted to pass it along. You can go here to take a short quiz telling you which Presidential candidates your values align most with. You give your opinion on the issue, and rank the issue according to its importance to you.

My results showed Duncan Hunter, with Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee coming in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. I thought it was interesting that Fred Thompson came in second but was not surprised that Hunter was my top candidate.

If you take the quiz, feel free to post your results in the comments. No stone will be cast here!

Another Day at the Office

Oh, how I love Friday, the gatekeeper to the weekend!

We had brunch today at work, and I made a quick and easy casserole that was completely eaten by the end of round 1. (Round 2 is when one by one we graze over the food for the rest of the day, with a crowd gathering at lunch, of course.) Brunch foods here range from cheesecake to breakfast casseroles, to a Teammate's specialty queso, so I am done with eating today. We played pictionary that another Teammate and I made up specially themed for our office. Good times!

Around 11 someone came by and mentioned that a few of the Texas Rangers were signing autographs upstairs in our cafeteria. So of course I ran upstairs to meet them! I got autos from pitchers Wes Littleton and CJ Wilson, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia (who, by the way, has the longest last name in the league), and Eric Nadel, the voice of the Texas Rangers. How random is that?

So I Was Thinking...

First, I must preface this post by stating that I am going to ramble all the way to nowhere.

It's been a busy week. The New Year's commitments we made to "be healthier" on top of working a job that is more than 40 hours a week these days are keeping me hopping. We finally got the Christmas tree down last weekend. As much as I love celebrating the birth of our Savior, it kinda felt like I was dumping the last of the leftover cookies or candy in the trash saying, "no, I will not eat another bite." Does that make any sense?

The weather is about to get cold. This makes me not want to go anywhere. Not to the rec, not to work, and not even to the mall. We have yet to burn a fire in our fireplace, most likely because we've been too lazy to acquire any firewood. Hopefully that will change soon though. But most of all, I hope it doesn't get too cold because I need to be in Canton in a couple of weekends!

And Ladies, mark your calendars (or set your DVR)! PBS is running Jane Austen movies through the end of March. We've missed Persuasion, but we're in time to see Northanger Abbey on Sunday. Go here to download the schedule!

Happy Birthday! (a day late)

Guess who had a birthday!!!
I hope you got my message yesterday! And I got your response to "Emily's Gift Giving Questionnaire" from back at Christmastime. Was that a hint? :)

On the Road

Here's a pic of the Cowboys new stadium in Arlington. I pass by here twice a day on my commute, and it's interesting watching it go up. It is HUGE. I think it will be pretty much awesome when the Aggies play Arkansas in a series here as they will beginning in 2009. A great resurrection of old SWC days, (or so they say...I don't really remember those days.)

Second Runner Up for Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

Oh yes, it's Girl Scout cookie time. The number of salesparents in my office climbs every year. I'm already in for two boxes of thin mints. Everyone has their favorite...what's yours?

Weekend Snapshot

This weekend brought with it a baby shower for my dear friend Sherry. Pink and brown were the colors du jour to celebrate the coming of baby Chloe who will be here before we know it!

Happy Birthday Hils!

Today is Hilary's birthday!!!

I was there on the day she was born, but I don't remember much since she is about 8 months older than me. I was also there when she got her first speeding ticket, but we won't talk about that. I don't really remember a time when I didn't know Hils. She is beautiful, witty, funny, a great encourager, and she has a fabulous sense of style. And today is her day!

I hope it's fabulous, just like her!

Fiesta at the Rec

Today is Day Numero Quatro of the New Year. I'm not sure of the Spanish word for day, and for that matter I'm not really sure of any other Spanish words since I took Latin in high school. My 3 years of Latin study shows up only when movies like Spartacus or Gladiator come on TV because that's where I learned what SPQR means. While the kids in Spanish were doing awesome things like having fiestas, eating great food, and singing La Bamba, I was exploring the not-as-exciting world of a dead language, all the while hoping it would help me on the SAT. But at least we got to watch a movie every Friday!

I've drifted quite a bit from the topic of it being day numero 4 of the new year. I have worked out 4--count 'em!--4 times this year. I am 4 for 4. Of course, I know I can't keep up that pace, but so far I'm making good use of my leisure time instead of sitting on the couch in front of the tv, while at the same time playing on my MacBook (which has officially secured a spot on my favorites list.) Other than my overall desire to get in shape, I have approximately 1 and a half months before we leave on a trip to Mexico. Mexico has beaches. You wear swimsuits on beaches! And people speak Spanish there.

So off I go--to the gym! Maybe after that I will look for a Spanish book.

Welcome 2008

Brad and I were recalling past New Years and realized that this is the 5th one we've watched come in together. This time of year holds some of our most special memories from dating. Our first date was to a Michael W. Smith concert, the Christmastime tour. We went on several other dates between then and when we went our separate ways for the Christmas holidays, but our first big meet up was to celebrate New Year's Eve with friends at Lake Texoma. Sweet memories!

Our 2nd NYE--the last one before we married--we were in Corsicana, shooting fireworks with my family. It was cold outside! The next year we celebrated a new year at the Mansion on Turtle Creek along with a chocolate bag from McCormick & Schmick. The past two years we've spent at home with friends, which is a lovely way to ring in the new year, in my opinion.

I love a new year. It brings with it many possibilities--an open canvas, really. We shall see what God chooses to paint over the next span of 365 days. It's an opportunity to set new commitments (not resolutions) and really reach them this time.

But for now, my husband just brought me breakfast in bed. If that isn't a way to start off a new year, then I don't know what is. I hope you have a terrific 2008!
